Nomi AI alternatives: what credits cost, what model changes did, and how to leave

The Morse teamPublished Facts checked 6 min read

The Nomi AI alternatives worth a look, as of November 5, 2026, are Kindroid for memory you can edit and export, Replika for calls, SillyTavern for keeping the model in your own hands, and Morse for unlimited character messages on a free plan with your history stored on your device. What sends people looking is mostly on Nomi's own pages: credits for every image past the daily allowance, a model that Nomi's own Q&A notes say scored worse in one release, terms that take effect the moment they change, and archives that outlast a deleted account.

We read Nomi's terms (effective January 16, 2026), privacy policy (effective April 27, 2026), refund and cancellation policies, the Nomipedia wiki, Nomipedia's summaries of the CEO's January and May 2026 Q&A streams, and the US App Store listing on November 5, 2026, plus each alternative's own pages that day. Nomi deserves credit for two things. Its privacy policy says "We do not and will not sell or rent to any third party any of your personal information" (Nomi), and it keeps a retired model running so you can go back to it.

What do Nomi credits buy?

Images, videos, and room to grow, once the daily allowance is spent. Nomi's wiki prices a selfie, an art image, or an image edit at 1 credit, a standard video at 6, a high-definition video at 10, an extra group chat room at 25, an anchor at 50, and an extra Nomi slot at 100 (Nomipedia). The US App Store sells credits in five packs, from 40 for $4.99 to 1,800 for $99.99 (App Store). We divided one by the other.

Sources: Nomipedia credit values and Nomi on the App Store. The 40-credit pack works out to about 12.5 cents a credit, the 225-credit pack ($19.99) to about 8.9 cents, and the 600-credit pack ($49.99) to about 8.3 cents.

The slot is where a long-time user feels it. A paid account holds 10 active Nomis and 10 active group chats, and each one past that is bought with credits (Nomipedia). A slot is paid once and can be reused after you delete a Nomi, but the same page says accounts can't be merged.

The plans themselves start at $9.99 a month for the Launch Plan and $15.99 for Standard on the US App Store (App Store). How that compares with Kindroid, month by month and year by year, is in Nomi vs Kindroid.

Did Nomi's model get worse?

On some measures, by Nomi's own account. Nomipedia's summary of the May 6, 2026 Q&A quotes the CEO as saying that "on some of the things we care about in our benchmarks, Cambrian 3 actually performed worse than Cambrian 2." The same summary quotes "The plan is for Solstice to remain as a legacy model for quite some time," and "you can always switch back" (Nomipedia).

Nomipedia's summary of the January 7, 2026 Q&A quotes the CEO on the move itself: "Cambrian is slower than Solstice," then "We'll give ample warning before Cambrian is made stable" and "I'll be making sure there's a way to return to either Mosaic or Solstice as legacy" (Nomipedia).

RoboRhythms, an alternatives site, claims the Solstice update "broke memory consistency for many users" (RoboRhythms). That's its claim, not Nomi's, and it doesn't cite either Q&A summary.

Why else do people leave Nomi?

Two clauses in Nomi's terms, beyond the terms' right to raise prices at renewal (Nomi):

  • Changes take effect when made. Glimpse.ai "reserves the right to modify all or any component of the System," and "Changes shall be effective when made" (Nomi).
  • An account can end without warning. For a breach, Glimpse.ai may "suspend or terminate your account without advance notice and without refund," and a missed payment "may result in the suspension or termination of your account without notice" (Nomi).

What does deleting your Nomi account leave behind?

The archives outlast the account. Nomi's privacy policy exempts "information that is in our training or communications archives" from deletion, and says what you send its support team "cannot be changed or deleted" because it "is part of our archives once created" (Nomi).

How to take a Nomi with you by hand

Nomipedia's summary of the January Q&A quotes the CEO as saying of exporting a Nomi that "there isn't anyone really working in that area" (Nomipedia), so the move is manual. Do it in this order, before you cancel:

  1. Write down who your Nomi is. Ask it for a profile of itself and copy its Backstory+ and Mind Map entries into one document (Nomipedia), the route our Nomi vs Kindroid FAQ describes. That document becomes the new character's description.
  2. Spend or forget your credits. They don't expire, but you can't buy more without a subscription, and the terms promise no refund for unused time (Nomi).
  3. Cancel where you paid. On the web: Profile, the Subscription tab, Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription. On an iPhone, you can also cancel under your Apple ID in Settings. Deleting the app cancels nothing (Nomi).
  4. Delete the account last, once the new character is set up, knowing the archives stay.

Where Nomi users go instead

Kindroid

If what you'd miss on Nomi is knowing what it remembers, Kindroid's Learned Context gives you three memory notes to edit by hand, and its FAQ lets you download your chats once every 30 days (Kindroid, Kindroid). It won't free you from credits, since its App Store listing sells selfie credits and extra Kindroid slots too (App Store), and the rest of its pricing is in Kindroid alternatives.

Replika

Replika suits the Nomi user who mostly calls: its home page promises a Rep that picks up and keeps track of your people, routines, plans, and goals (Replika). It has a credit-like currency of its own, since the App Store listing sells bags of gems beside its subscriptions, and its terms put the price on the checkout screen, not in a public list (App Store, Replika).

SillyTavern

SillyTavern settles the model question for good: its docs list backends you run on your own PC beside cloud ones, so the model a character runs on changes only when you change it (SillyTavern). The software costs nothing and sells no credits, but you pay what a cloud model charges or give up some quality on a local one, and SillyTavern alternatives covers hosted apps that skip the setup.

Moving your companion somewhere with no archive to leave behind

Archives that outlive your account come from one company holding your companion's history, and Morse's servers don't keep it. In Characters, Morse's companion and roleplay space, the Free plan gives unlimited character messages with the model picked for you, and Pro, at $19 a month, lets a character run on any included model. Character chats, the characters you build, and personas are kept encrypted in your browser, and Morse doesn't train AI on your content. Clearing your browser or deleting your account deletes your chats, and Morse can't recover them. How Morse's privacy modes compare with Nomi's servers is in Nomi vs Kindroid.

Choose Nomi or Morse

  • Choose Nomi if you want voice chats, hands-free calls, group chats, and selfies of your companion in one app (Nomi), plus video creation on a paid plan (Nomi), memory it sorts into Mind Maps on its own (Nomipedia), and the option to switch back to a legacy model.
  • Choose Morse if you'd rather your companion's history sit encrypted in your browser than in a company's archives, with unlimited character messages on the Free plan and any included model on Pro.

Common questions

What is the best free Nomi AI alternative?

If credits are what you're tired of, SillyTavern has none, since the software is free, though a cloud model usually charges for use. Among hosted apps, Morse's Free plan gives unlimited character messages, with the model picked for you, for $0 and no card.

Do Nomi credits expire?

No. Nomi's wiki says credits don't expire and are spent only once a daily allowance runs out, but buying more needs an active subscription, so credits you hold after cancelling can't be topped up.

Is Nomi's Launch Plan enough?

Nomi's own pages don't say what the Launch Plan includes, as of November 5, 2026. It's listed on the US App Store at $9.99 a month, so compare it with the Standard plan on the purchase screen before you pay, since payments are nonrefundable.

What happens to my Nomis if I cancel?

Your paid features last until the billing period ends, then the account drops to the free tier. Nomi's refund policy says the downgrade doesn't remove any Nomis, and one-on-one chats carry on.
