Nomi vs Kindroid: memory, price, free tier, and privacy compared
The Morse teamPublished Facts checked 9 min read
Nomi vs Kindroid comes down to ease against control. As of November 4, 2026, Nomi builds its memory largely on its own and keeps one-on-one chat open to free accounts, while Kindroid gives subscribers memory you can edit by hand, video calls, and shared Rooms, but turns free accounts read-only once a short preview runs out. Both keep your whole companion history on their own servers.
We read Nomi's home page, privacy policy (effective April 27, 2026), terms (effective January 16, 2026), refund and cancellation policies, support page, and its Nomipedia wiki, and Kindroid's subscriptions, memory, group chat, Rooms, voice, moderation, and FAQ pages, its update log, and its privacy policy (effective November 3, 2026), all on November 4, 2026. We also read both apps' US App Store listings that day for prices and privacy labels. Both companies earn credit. Nomi says it does "not and will not sell or rent" your personal information. Kindroid's home page says "All data encrypted," and its privacy policy is candid about the limit: "Kindroid is not end-to-end encrypted."

Which has better memory, Nomi or Kindroid?
Nomi asks less of you, and Kindroid gives you more to edit. Nomi's wiki describes short-term, medium-term, and long-term memory, plus Backstory+, an Identity Core, and Mind Maps (Nomi). A Mind Map "automatically organizes information from long-term memories" into overviews of people, places, and goals, and you can edit or add entries (Nomi). Nomi's advice for recall is to ask by topic, not by date: its memory is "more topical than temporal" (Nomi).
Kindroid's memory guide, updated October 28, 2026, splits memory into persistent, cascaded, and retrievable types across five systems. Cascaded Memory reaches "hundreds or thousands of messages prior," and Learned Context keeps three editable notes capped at 800, 1,200, and 800 characters. Long-term memory is "infinite" but "recalled less reliably" (Kindroid). Kindroid's Ultra and MAX add-ons sell more context on top. Since October 28, journal entries can carry a photo, and each group chat has its own journal (Kindroid).
Is Nomi or Kindroid free?
Nomi stays usable for free, and Kindroid doesn't. Nomi's home page says "It's free (no credit card required) to start chatting" (Nomi), and its refund policy says moving to the free tier doesn't block "chatting with any Nomis in one-on-one conversations," though group chats, video creation, voice messaging, and calls turn read-only (Nomi). Nomi's pages don't publish a message limit for free accounts.
Kindroid's subscriptions page, updated October 30, 2026, gives new accounts a one-time preview: 50 messages (15 in some regions), 5 selfies, 5,000 audio credits, and up to 2 Kindroids. After that, "Read-only accounts can't send messages, regenerate, make calls, or receive proactive messages." The 3-day trial needs a payment method, converts to a paid plan unless you cancel, and on the web needs a verified mobile phone number (Kindroid). Why that change sent people looking elsewhere is in our Kindroid alternatives guide.
Is Nomi cheaper than Kindroid?
On a yearly plan, yes, by $60 on the US App Store. Nomi's Standard plan and Kindroid's subscription both cost $15.99 a month there. Neither company prints a price on its website, so we read the in-app purchase lists on November 4, 2026.
| US App Store, November 4, 2026 | Nomi | Kindroid |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $15.99 | $15.99 |
| Quarterly | $39.99 | $42.99 |
| Yearly | $99.99 (about $8.33 a month) | $159.99 (about $13.33 a month) |
| Cheaper tier | Launch Plan, $9.99 monthly or $59.99 yearly | None listed |
| Higher tiers | None listed | Ultra $28.99 and MAX $68.99, each on top of the plan |
| Extra images | 100 credits for $9.99 | 100 selfie credits for $11.49 |

One comparison that ranks for this search, last updated July 14, 2026, has Kindroid cheaper at the entry tier, "around $13.99 versus Nomi near $15.99" (RoboRhythms). That isn't what the US App Store shows today. Kindroid says buying on the web "is usually cheaper" (Kindroid), so its web checkout may come in lower, but it shows that price only at checkout. Nomi's pages don't say what its Launch Plan includes, and its terms let it raise fees "at any time" (Nomi). Both treat payments as final, with refunds only at the company's discretion.
Do Nomi and Kindroid have voice calls, video, and group chats?
Both have voice calls and group chats, and only Kindroid lists video calls. Nomi includes voice messages, hands-free calls, and custom voices made from a clip shorter than 15 seconds, with unlimited use of its own voices on paid plans (Nomi). Its videos are clips made from an image, 5 to 15 seconds long (Nomi).
Kindroid meters voice in audio credits. Calls cost 400 credits a minute on top of the voice itself, and live video adds about 2,500 credits a minute at Standard quality (Kindroid). Since November 3, you can also attach a PDF, Word file, or text file up to 10 MB for your Kin to read (Kindroid).
In groups, Kindroid allows 10 Kins per chat and 20 group chats (Kindroid), and Rooms add other people (Kindroid). Nomi allows 10 active group chats and 10 active Nomis on a paid account, and sells more slots for credits (Nomi).
Are Nomi and Kindroid unfiltered?
Both say so, with limits. Nomi's home page says it's "built on freedom of expression" (Nomi), but its wiki says app store and card network rules limit the photos a Nomi may send of itself (Nomi).
Kindroid's moderation guidelines, updated November 4, 2026, say "we are not implementing a 'filter' on the AI itself" (Kindroid), though an automated system scans recent chats for three red lines, which we cover in is Kindroid safe.
Which is more private, Nomi or Kindroid?
Neither keeps your chats from itself, and Kindroid's App Store label lists identifiers and usage data under "Data Used to Track You" (App Store), while Nomi's lists none (App Store). Nomi's wiki says end-to-end encryption "is not possible with an AI chatbot" in any useful way, because Nomi "would need to have the keys to decrypt the message" (Nomi). Who can read Kindroid chats is in is Kindroid safe, and how 14 companion apps handle training and retention is in AI companion app privacy.
What happens to your chats when you leave Nomi or Kindroid?
Only Kindroid documents a way to take a copy with you. It exports a .jsonl file of your chats, journals, and settings once every 30 days (Kindroid), and we found no export tool in Nomi's wiki or privacy policy. Kindroid's privacy policy, effective November 3, 2026, keeps "moderation records, including the content our safety systems flagged," for up to 7 years, "including after you delete your account" (Kindroid). The rest of what Kindroid keeps after you delete is in is Kindroid safe.
How Morse keeps your companion's history off company servers
Every privacy answer above starts in the same place. Nomi and Kindroid keep your companion's whole history on their servers, where it's read to answer you, scanned, learned from in aggregate, and, where Kindroid's safety systems flagged it, kept for up to 7 years after you leave. Morse keeps that history on your device instead.
- Your companion lives in your browser. Characters, Morse's roleplay and companion chats, stores your character chats, the characters you make, and your personas in your browser, encrypted. Our servers don't keep messages or log their content, so there's no training archive and no flagged-content archive to sit in.
- Two keys, and one never leaves your device. The other comes from our server when you sign in, so a copy of your browser data alone can't be read, and everything locks again when you sign out.
- No training, no ads, no trackers. Morse doesn't train AI on your content, sell your data, or show ads, and runs no advertising trackers or third-party analytics.
- Free without a preview that runs out. The Free plan costs $0, needs no card, and puts no cap on character messages, with the model picked for you. Pro, $19 a month ($17 billed yearly), adds memory across chats, character chats on any included model, and unfiltered models.
Nomi's wiki says end-to-end encryption would do little for a chatbot. In Chat, Morse gives each conversation its own privacy mode, and one of them is end to end:
- E2EE, for the conversation Nomi's wiki says can't usefully be encrypted. Your browser checks the enclave's hardware attestation, encrypts the message so only that enclave can read it, and decrypts the reply itself, while our servers relay ciphertext they can't read. The enclaves are run by third-party providers, not by Morse, and the guarantee rests on the enclave hardware and attestation working as designed. E2EE runs open-weight models like GLM, Kimi, and DeepSeek, and comes with Pro.
- Private, the default, for anything you'd rather no host kept. Morse has zero data retention agreements with its inference, search, and other providers, so they keep nothing. Where a provider confirms zero retention on each reply, Morse checks it and refuses a reply that doesn't.
- Anonymous, for GPT, Claude, or Gemini without the provider knowing it's you. Our proxy removes your account, email, and IP address, though the provider may keep the message for a limited time to check for abuse, under its own policy.
Because we don't store chats, we usually have very little to give authorities. Morse is for adults, who confirm they're 18 or older, and character chats show crisis lines when a message reads like suicidal thinking, checked on your device. Your device holds the only copy, so clearing your browser deletes your companion for good and we can't bring it back. Keep a copy of any story you'd hate to lose.
Choose Nomi, Kindroid, or Morse
- Choose Nomi if you want a companion that organizes its own memory, voice calls and custom voices in one subscription, and the lower yearly price.
- Choose Kindroid if you want to edit memory by hand, video calls, and Rooms with friends, and you'll subscribe once the preview ends.
- Choose Morse if you want companion chats with no cap on the Free plan, stored encrypted in your browser instead of on a company's servers.

Common questions
Can I move my Nomi to Kindroid, or my Kin to Nomi?
Not directly. Nomi's wiki says there's no way to transfer an AI and suggests asking your current companion to describe itself, then pasting that into Backstory+ and Mind Map entries. Kindroid's FAQ doesn't describe an import either.
Can friends join a chat with my companion?
On Kindroid, yes. Its Rooms hold up to 10 people and 11 Kins, subscribers create them, and free accounts can join up to 4 as read-only viewers. Nomi's wiki says each Nomi talks with only one human, outside its API.
Does Nomi or Kindroid sell a lifetime plan?
Neither does, as of November 4, 2026. Nomi's wiki says it doesn't offer one, and Kindroid sells 1-month, 3-month, and 1-year plans, with its Ultra and MAX add-ons billed monthly only.
Do Nomi and Kindroid run in a browser?
Both do. Nomi has a web app at beta.nomi.ai alongside its iPhone and Android apps, and Kindroid works on the web too, though a Kindroid subscription bought on one platform can't move to another until it runs out.
