PolyBuzz alternatives: where your character chats go instead
The Morse teamPublished Facts checked 8 min read
The best PolyBuzz alternatives keep your character chats somewhere PolyBuzz's own documents don't reach. PolyBuzz's October 27, 2026 rewrite of its privacy policy widened that reach: it now names Google and AppLovin as its ad networks and keeps basic customer data for seven years after you leave (PolyBuzz). Morse keeps character chats encrypted in your browser and puts no limit on character messages on its Free plan. Character.AI, Talkie, Chai, Kindroid, and Janitor AI are the other options compared here, on what each one keeps.
On November 1, 2026, we read PolyBuzz's privacy policy and terms, both rewritten on October 27, 2026, along with its FAQ, membership and Coins pages, its Google Play listing, and Apple's store records. We compared the new policy with the version archived on October 16, 2026, then read each alternative's own policy the same day. PolyBuzz deserves credit in two places. Its policy says "We DO NOT sell User Information," and in the UK it keeps only the result of an age check, not your ID.

Why do people leave PolyBuzz?
PolyBuzz's own pages give four reasons.
The free tier waits in line. The membership page sells "Unlimited chats," "Skip the queue and have priority chat rights," and "Ad-free" as paid perks, at $14.90 for a first week or $299 for a year on November 1, 2026. Regenerating a reply, or a round on models like Overture, Lumina, and Conqueror, costs Coins, sold from 1,000 for $2.49 (Coins). How Coins, Opals, and creators' Poins fit together is in is PolyBuzz safe.
"Unrestricted" has rules. The FAQ advertises "Free, Private, and Unrestricted AI character chats" yet bans NSFW content anywhere public (is PolyBuzz safe covers how it screens and what it records).
Characters forget. The FAQ says the AI's "memory capacity is technically limited," so it "may 'forget' previous conversations over time." The longer-memory models sit on the membership page.
iPhone users can't download it. Apple's US App Store still had no PolyBuzz listing on November 1, 2026, a gap is PolyBuzz safe traces across eight countries.
What changed in PolyBuzz's privacy policy on October 27, 2026?
The website now has the same operator as the apps, and the policy grew by more than half. The version archived on October 16, last updated June 1, 2026, said polybuzz.ai "is operated by Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited in Hong Kong" and linked TopOn's ad policy. The October 27 version names Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, the Delaware company behind the apps, and, by our count, runs about 10,350 words against about 6,500 before. Among the changes:
- A new operator for the website. Cloud Whale is now the website's "data controller" under the GDPR, with K&L Gates LLP named as its UK and EU representative.
- New ad networks. The policy now names "advertising networks being Google and AppLovin based in USA."
- A seven-year floor. PolyBuzz keeps "basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Security and Transaction Data) for seven (7) years after they cease being customers."
- A seven-year ceiling for idle accounts. An account unused for seven years is treated as expired and its personal data deleted.
- Anonymized data kept indefinitely. Data PolyBuzz anonymizes "for research or statistical purposes" may be used "indefinitely without further notice to you."
The training and sharing clauses our October 22 reading flagged are unchanged, and is PolyBuzz safe quotes them. PolyBuzz's policy page now shows only the October 27 text, so the Internet Archive is the place to read what you first agreed to.
Can you take your PolyBuzz chats with you?
Not with PolyBuzz's tools. The FAQ explains how to bring "character cards or JSON files" in from Character.AI and other apps, but no page we read describes taking chats or characters out, and deleting the account comes with conditions (is PolyBuzz safe lists them).
So before you go, open each character you made and copy its description, greeting, and the scenes you want to keep into a document. Any app below can take that text as a new character.
How Morse keeps your character chats on your device
Every PolyBuzz problem above, from the queue to the seven-year floor, starts with your chats sitting on PolyBuzz's servers. Morse is built so they don't sit on ours: in Characters, your chats, the characters you make, and your personas are stored in your browser, encrypted, and Morse's servers don't keep your messages or log what's in them (privacy policy).
- Free, with no cap on character messages. The Free plan has no cap on character messages, with the model picked for you, and asks for no card. Pro, at $19 a month or $17 billed yearly, adds character chats on any included model, memory across chats, and limited-edition characters.
- Unfiltered on paid plans, for adults only. On paid plans, picking an unfiltered model gets you the dark fiction other apps refuse. Morse is for adults only, everyone confirms they're 18 or older, and Morse reports child sexual abuse material to NCMEC.
- Nothing to train on, sell, or advertise against. Morse doesn't train AI on your content, sell your data, or show ads, and runs no advertising trackers or third-party analytics. Your account holds sign-in details, your plan, your balance, and a usage ledger with no content.
- A web app, not a store listing. You open it at trymorse.ai, so there's no app store listing to disappear.
Your chats lock when you sign out. Unlocking needs one key that never leaves your device and one Morse's server hands you at sign-in, so a copy of the browser data alone can't be read. Your device holds the only copy, so clearing your browser or deleting your account deletes the chats for good, and Morse can't bring them back. Keep a copy of any story you'd miss. In character chats, a check on your device shows crisis lines when a message reads like suicidal thinking.
Outside Characters, you pick a privacy mode for each Chat conversation:
- Private, the default, for a late-night story you'd rather no host kept. It runs open-weight models like DeepSeek, Kimi, and GLM. Morse has zero data retention agreements with its inference, search, and other providers, so they keep nothing.
- E2EE, for the scenes you wouldn't put on any company's server. Your browser checks the enclave's proof that it's genuine before anything leaves your device, then seals each message so only that enclave can read it, resting on the enclave hardware and attestation working as designed. It comes with Pro.
- Anonymous, for asking GPT, Claude, or Gemini to help plan a plot without the provider knowing it's you. Our proxy strips your account, email, and IP address, and the provider may keep the message for a limited time to check for abuse, under its own policy.
The other PolyBuzz alternatives
Character.AI has the biggest library of characters, and its privacy policy, effective July 1, 2026, lets it train its models on what it collects and keep a public character you made "active on the Services, even if you otherwise delete your data and your account." What it shows creators and moderators is in is Character.AI private.
Talkie says it's "primarily designed for use within the US market," processes data in the US, and isn't meant for anyone under 16 (Talkie). Its export file leaves out your chats, which our Talkie alternatives guide covers.
Chai removes "personal identifiers" from chats before using them to "enhance and fine tune" its models, and keeps data up to "five (5) years following" an account's deletion (Chai, last updated October 12, 2026). More in is Chai AI safe.
Kindroid says plainly that it "is not end-to-end encrypted" and that authorized staff may read excerpts its safety systems flag (Kindroid, effective October 29, 2026). When a preview or subscription ends, the account goes read-only, but you can still "view, play back, export, and delete everything" (Kindroid).
Janitor AI promises "We will always keep a free option available for everyone," with a context limit of "around 9k tokens" on its standard models (Janitor AI). Its site blocked our reader on November 1, so we couldn't check its privacy policy. Our Janitor AI alternatives guide covers it.

Common questions
How do I get a copy of my PolyBuzz data before I leave?
PolyBuzz's privacy policy says to email legal@mail.polybuzz.ai with "Attn: DPO" in the subject line, ideally from the email address you registered with, since it verifies your identity first. It says it generally responds within 30 days of receiving the request and verifying you.
Can I import my PolyBuzz characters into another app?
PolyBuzz's FAQ describes importing character cards and JSON files into PolyBuzz, but none of its pages we read describes exporting characters or chats out of it. Copy each character's description and opening lines into a document before you leave.
Which PolyBuzz alternative has no ads on the free plan?
Morse shows no ads on any plan, Free included. Chai's privacy policy says it sends ads to users on a free subscription, and PolyBuzz's own policy names Google and AppLovin as its advertising networks.
