Meta AI alternatives for chat and images, compared on ads and training
The Morse teamPublished Facts checked 10 min read
The best Meta AI alternatives as of October 28, 2026 are Morse, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Duck.ai, and Proton Lumo for chat, and Adobe Firefly, Gemini, and Morse's Studio for images. Which one fits depends on what you used Meta AI for. Moving your questions and image prompts to another app takes them out of Meta's ads and training, but it doesn't touch your public posts, the WhatsApp groups you're in, or a pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
We read Meta's privacy policy (effective July 23, 2026), its AI terms (effective May 13, 2026), its Privacy Center pages on generative AI, the Meta AI app's help pages, WhatsApp's help pages, Muse's privacy policy and terms, and Meta's newsroom posts on October 28, 2026, then each alternative's own pricing and privacy pages the same day. Meta earns credit for Incognito Chat, which runs on Private Processing, and its help page says "Meta can't access it" (Meta).

Why do people look for a Meta AI alternative?
Since December 16, 2025, your Meta AI chats help pick the ads you see, with no opt-out in the US; Meta trains its AI on your chats and on the images you ask it to imagine; and the assistant is built into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. We lay out the evidence for each in is Meta AI private. Meta's help pages add that your age, gender, location, and "interests based on your activity across our products," including the ads you view, shape Meta AI's answers before you type a word (Meta).
What does switching away from Meta AI fix, and what doesn't it?
Moving your questions to another app fixes the chat side. It doesn't change what Meta does with the rest of your Meta accounts. We built this table from Meta's own pages, read October 28, 2026.
| What bothers you | Fixed by switching apps? | Why, in Meta's words |
|---|---|---|
| Chats shaping your ads | Yes, for chats you move | Only "interactions with AI at Meta" feed ads (Meta) |
| Training on your chats and imagined images | Yes, for chats you move | Training covers "messages to AI chats" and images you "ask Meta AI to imagine" (Meta) |
| Training on your public posts | No | Training sources include "posts or photos and their captions" on Meta's products (Meta) |
| Friends sending your messages to Meta AI | No | Meta can read WhatsApp messages "that people choose to share with Meta AI" (WhatsApp) |
| Being in someone else's image | Partly | You're "notified when someone uses the 'add' feature" to post a vibe with you in it, and can delete it (Meta) |
| Data about you with no account at all | No | "Even if you don't use our Products or have an account, we may still process information about you" (Meta) |
The rows marked "No" stay with Meta's own controls, which our guide to turning off Meta AI walks through app by app. Before you leave, you can export your Meta AI history from the app's settings; how to download your AI chat data has the path, and we found no other app that imports the file.
Can another app replace Meta AI in WhatsApp, on glasses, and in Vibes?
Not inside Meta's own apps. None of the apps on this page runs there, so three uses have no direct replacement.
WhatsApp groups. Meta has been testing side chats, which let you "tap the Meta AI icon from any group chat to get a quick, private answer grounded in what your group is discussing" (Meta). No outside app sits in a WhatsApp group that way. Leaving Meta AI also doesn't stop others in a group from sending it messages, unless an admin turns on Restricted chat (WhatsApp), as our guide to turning off Meta AI explains.
Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses. Meta's Muse Spark model has been rolling out on both (Meta), and Meta says voice conversations "are stored by default," with the option to turn storage off "no longer available" (Meta). No app on this page sits in your glasses, so the switch here is from asking out loud to opening an app and typing. We cover the glasses in are Meta AI glasses private.
Vibes. Meta AI animates an image into a video, adds music, and lets you post it "to the Meta AI and Vibes feed" under a profile Meta says is "publicly visible" (Meta, Meta).
Is Muse a more private Meta AI?
Partly. Muse, the agent app Meta launched on September 8, 2026, has a training switch and keeps your conversations away from Meta's ad systems, two things Meta AI doesn't offer (Meta). It also works by connecting to your email, calendar, and shopping accounts, and its terms let Meta "access and retain logs of actions taken by Muse" (Meta).
What's the best Meta AI alternative for image generation?
For everyday images, Morse's Studio, which makes 3 a day on the Free plan and keeps them in your browser, encrypted; for the rest, it depends on which part of Imagine you used. Meta AI's images come from Muse Image, launched on July 7, 2026, with a presets panel that restores old family photos or tries trending hairstyles on you. Three days later Meta removed a feature that let people reference public Instagram accounts by @-mentioning them, saying it "missed the mark" (Meta). Every image you ask Meta AI to imagine can be used to train its models (Meta).
| What you did in Imagine | How Meta AI does it | Other apps that do it |
|---|---|---|
| Put yourself or a friend in a picture | Type "me," or "@" and a Meta AI username (Meta); the friend is "notified" if it's posted (Meta) | Gemini's Free plan includes image editing (Google) |
| Quick images from a prompt | Free, with more on Meta One Core at $7.99 a month (Meta) | Morse Studio, 3 a day free, stored in your browser; Duck.ai's "New Image," with a daily limit and no account (DuckDuckGo) |
| Images for work you'll publish | Labeled as AI-generated (Meta) | Adobe Firefly, whose own models are trained on licensed and public domain content (Adobe) |
| Turning images into videos | Vibes, posted to a public feed | Firefly's free daily generations include video (Adobe); Gemini adds video from Google AI Plus (Google) |
| Keeping prompts out of training | Not possible in a normal chat (Meta) | Morse, which doesn't train AI on your content; Lumo (Proton); Firefly, for subscribers' own content |
Our Midjourney alternatives page compares more image apps on public galleries, and does Adobe train on your work covers Adobe's terms.
1. Morse
Meta AI ties everything to one identity. The same Meta account holds your posts, your public AI profile, your ad interests, and every chat and image prompt, on Meta's servers. Morse splits those pieces apart. It's a separate web app, your chats and Studio images are stored in your browser, encrypted, and Morse doesn't train AI on what you type or generate, sell your data, or show ads (privacy policy). It runs no advertising trackers or third-party analytics.
One Morse account reaches over 30 models, open and closed, from OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, DeepSeek, Z.ai, Moonshot AI, Qwen, and others. Each chat gets its own privacy mode:
- Private, for the questions you'd have typed into Meta AI's chat box. New chats open in this mode. It runs open-weight models such as DeepSeek, Kimi, and GLM, plus Grok, and Morse has zero data retention agreements with its inference, search, and other providers. Where a provider confirms zero retention on each reply, Morse checks that confirmation and rejects any reply without it.
- Anonymous, for GPT, Claude, or Gemini without a Meta-style profile behind the question. Our proxy removes your account, email, and IP address and forwards the message under Morse's own account. The provider sees the message without knowing it's you, and may keep it for a limited time to check for abuse, under its own policy, so keep names and details out of the prompt.
- E2EE, for the health and politics questions Meta only keeps out of your ads. Meta's list of topics it won't use for ads includes health and political views (Meta), and its AI terms say the AIs "will sometimes retain and use" what you share (Meta). On Morse, your browser first checks the hardware proof that the enclave is genuine, then encrypts the message so only that one enclave can decrypt it; Morse's servers only relay ciphertext they can't read. The enclaves belong to third-party providers rather than Morse, and the protection holds as long as the enclave hardware and attestation work as designed. E2EE uses open-weight models, with no web search or image generation.
Studio takes over from Imagine. The Free plan makes 3 images a day with Z-Image Turbo, and Pro unlocks unlimited Pro image models such as Nano Banana 2 Lite and Qwen Image 3 Pro, plus 4 unfiltered image models. Paid plans also include unfiltered chat models for questions other apps refuse, which never extends to anything illegal or to sexual content involving minors; Morse reports child sexual abuse material to NCMEC.
A guest chat from the home page saves nothing. Signing in with an emailed code or Google keeps your chats, locked whenever you sign out, and unlocking them takes two keys: one stays on your device, and our server hands you the other at sign-in. Because we don't store chats, we usually have very little to give authorities. If you clear your browser or delete your account, the chats are gone and Morse can't bring them back, so copy out anything you'll need. As of October 2026, Free costs $0 with no card, Pro is $19 a month ($17 billed yearly) and adds E2EE, and Max is $49. Morse is for adults only.
2 to 7. The rest of the list
Each one answers a different reason for leaving Meta AI. For the full comparison of the chat apps, see ChatGPT alternatives.
- ChatGPT, for the training switch Meta AI doesn't give US users. You can turn training off in settings, even without signing in (OpenAI, archived September 25, 2026), and Go is the plan that "may include ads" (OpenAI).
- Claude, for chats that never feed an ad system. Anthropic has pledged Claude will stay ad-free (Anthropic), though it trains on chats unless you opt out (Anthropic), and its plans list no image generation (Anthropic).
- Gemini, for the photo edits you made in Imagine. Editing is on the Free plan (Google), and Google keeps chats its reviewers read for up to three years (Google).
- Duck.ai, for skipping the Meta account and its public profile. Duck.ai needs no account at all (DuckDuckGo).
- Proton Lumo, for retention you don't have to guess at. Meta decides how long to keep data "on a case-by-case basis" (Meta); Proton says Lumo keeps no logs of what you ask (Proton).
- Adobe Firefly, for images that don't train the model. Meta can train on what you ask it to imagine, while Adobe's terms, effective October 3, 2025, rule out training generative AI on your content except what you submit to Adobe Stock (Adobe).
How we compared them
We read every live page linked above on October 28, 2026, took each company at its written word, and didn't test answer quality or image output.
Choose Meta AI, another app, or Morse
- Choose Meta AI if you want an assistant inside your WhatsApp groups and on your glasses, Vibes videos for a public feed, or Incognito Chat's Private Processing for free.
- Choose Adobe Firefly or Gemini if you want video from your images, or, with Firefly, images for commercial work from models trained on licensed content.
- Choose Morse if you want your questions kept away from an ad profile and an app that doesn't train AI on anything you type or generate. One sign-in gets you GPT, Claude, Gemini, and open-weight models, plus Studio for images, with history kept encrypted in your browser.
Send a first message from the Morse home page with no account, or start free and make 3 images a day in Studio.

Common questions
Does Meta AI cost money now?
Not for everyday use. Meta said in September 2026 that Meta AI "will still be free for everyday use," and that its Meta One Core plan, $7.99 a month, adds more image and video generation with Meta AI, while Premium, $19.99 a month, gives "the most room to create content with Meta AI."
Does Meta label the images Meta AI makes?
Meta's image help page says it will "continue to label AI-generated images made with our own products." It also says you can generate images of certain public figures.
Is there a free Meta AI alternative that needs no account?
Duck.ai says it's free to use with no account required. On Morse, a message sent from the home page opens a guest chat that's kept in the tab's memory and never saved, and the Free plan needs only an emailed code or Google sign-in, with no card.
