How to delete your DeepSeek account, chats, and data

The Morse teamPublished 9 min read

To delete your DeepSeek account on the web, sign in at chat.deepseek.com, open Settings, choose Profile, click Delete next to "Delete account," type DELETE MY ACCOUNT, and click Confirm delete my account. In the Android app, the same button is under Settings, then Account settings. As of October 2026, DeepSeek's own screens say deleting removes your chat history on the app and web for good, but its English privacy policy doesn't say how long your data stays on its servers in China after that, and its terms let it keep some data after you delete.

We read DeepSeek's privacy policy (last updated February 10, 2026) in English and in Chinese, its terms of use (March 27, 2026), its Chinese-language account deletion notice, its help FAQ, and the settings and warnings in its web app and its Android app, version 2.7.1, on October 25, 2026. DeepSeek deserves credit for its delete screen, which spells out four consequences before you confirm, and for a training switch and an export button you can find in settings.

What should you do before deleting your DeepSeek account?

Save your chats, switch off training, and get back any API balance.

  • Export your chats on the web. In Settings, then Data, click Export next to "Export data," then Download. DeepSeek's web app says the file "includes your account information and all chat history" and that "the download link will be valid for 7 days." We found no export option in the Android app, so use a browser.
  • Turn off "Improve the model for everyone." It's in Settings, then Data on the web, and in Data controls in the app. DeepSeek's terms (section 4.3) name this switch as the way to stop it using your inputs and outputs to improve its services.
  • Refund your API balance. The chat app and DeepSeek's developer platform share one account, and the delete screen warns: "Any unused balance in your Open Platform account will be forfeited upon deletion." DeepSeek's FAQ says unused balances can be refunded. On the platform, go to Billing and click Refunds.
  • Remove share links you posted. Deleting a chat disables its link, but a copy someone already saved or a crawler already took isn't covered. DeepSeek's privacy policy warns that shared chats published on the open web "may be at risk of being obtained by third parties through technical means such as web crawlers."

How do I delete my DeepSeek account, step by step?

The steps in DeepSeek's web and Android apps, as of October 25, 2026:

The iPhone app was on the same version, 2.7.1, in the App Store on October 25, 2026, and DeepSeek's Chinese-language policy describes one path for both phone apps, so expect the Android labels. If yours differ, use the web steps. They reach the same account.

Before you confirm, DeepSeek's delete screen lists what happens: "All chat history on the app and web will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered," you'll lose access to "chat and the developer platform," unused balance is forfeited, and "frequent account deletion and re-registration may be flagged as abnormal activity." Two cases can block you. The web app tells postpaid developer accounts that they "cannot perform this operation" and must contact DeepSeek, and the Chinese-language deletion notice lists conditions: the account must be in a secure state, its balance settled or given up, its logins with other products unbound, and free of open disputes. If you signed in with Google or Apple, also remove DeepSeek from that account's connected apps.

How do I delete my DeepSeek chat history without deleting the account?

Delete chats one at a time, in batches of up to 99, or all at once, using the steps in the table. Each delete takes the chat off both the app and the web, and DeepSeek's web app says "Share links from it will be disabled." There's no undo. DeepSeek's FAQ answers "Can I recover deleted chats?" in one line: "Deleted conversations cannot be recovered."

Logging out doesn't count. The Android app says logging out "won't delete any data," and Log out of all devices, under Profile on the web, only ends your sessions.

Does DeepSeek delete your data when you delete your account?

It says it deletes it or makes it anonymous, but its English policy doesn't say when. The privacy policy keeps your account data and input "for as long as you have an account," and also keeps data "when we have a legitimate business interest to do so (such as improving and developing our Services…)," to meet legal obligations, and to defend legal claims. Once data is "no longer required," DeepSeek says it will destroy, delete, erase, or anonymize it, with no period given. The terms (section 2.5) add that even after you delete your account, DeepSeek may "retain certain data of the user as required by laws and regulations."

The Chinese-language version of the same February 10, 2026 policy, written for DeepSeek's service in China, gives the numbers the English one leaves out. In our translation, it says DeepSeek will reply to an account deletion request within 15 working days, and that it keeps some data after deletion where the law requires, citing China's Cybersecurity Law, which requires network logs to be kept "for no less than six months." The deletion notice says that if the account is part of a complaint, lawsuit, or investigation by state authorities while deletion is pending, DeepSeek may stop the deletion without asking you.

The top results for this search disagree with each other. Bardeen's guide says deleting erases everything "from DeepSeek's servers." Kaspersky's (October 2025) says deleting all chats removes them from your account "without deleting your data from DeepSeek's servers." DeepSeek's pages support neither. Its app promises the chats are "permanently deleted and cannot be recovered," and its policy promises deletion or anonymization at some point it doesn't name, minus what the law makes it keep.

Does deleting your chats remove them from DeepSeek's training data?

DeepSeek doesn't say it does. Its training notes say any user input it uses is de-identified first, as we cover in is DeepSeek safe, but neither they nor the privacy policy say whether a deletion request reaches data already used, so switch training off before you delete, as in the first step above.

Where is your DeepSeek data stored?

In China. The privacy policy says, "we directly collect, process and store your Personal Data in People's Republic of China." On October 20, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security published an order removing DeepSeek products from federal civilian agencies' IT systems; it covers agency systems, not personal phones. We cover what DeepSeek collects and who can get it in is DeepSeek safe.

How do I ask DeepSeek to delete my data by email?

Write to privacy@deepseek.com, the address the privacy policy gives for rights requests, including "the right to delete Personal Data you've provided to us, or that we've obtained about you." Some guides send you to service@deepseek.com, which the terms list as the general contact. Use privacy@deepseek.com for a deletion request.

  • Expect an identity check. The policy says DeepSeek may ask for information "sufficient to confirm your identity," so send it from the email or with the phone number on the account.
  • Ask for more than chats. Name your account data, inputs, device and log data, and data from other sources, which the policy says include sign-in services and security partners.
  • Appeal a refusal. The policy lets you appeal by emailing the same address, then complain to your data protection authority.
  • In the EU or UK, you can also write to DeepSeek's representative, Prighter, at rep_deepseek@prighter.com, with "Data Subject Request" in the subject line.

The Google Play data safety page says the developer "provides a way for you to request that your data be deleted," and points to the same privacy policy.

How to use DeepSeek without leaving a copy in China

You can press delete on DeepSeek, but the copies sit on its servers in China, tied to your account, and DeepSeek decides when they go. Morse runs DeepSeek's open-weight models instead of DeepSeek's app, so there's no DeepSeek account to delete, and the hosts that run the model have agreed to keep nothing.

  • Private, for DeepSeek with no DeepSeek account. Private is the default for a new chat and runs open-weight models like DeepSeek, Kimi, and GLM. Morse has zero data retention agreements with its inference, search, and other providers, so they've agreed to keep nothing. Where a provider confirms zero retention on each reply, Morse checks it and refuses a reply that doesn't; otherwise Morse relies on the provider's commitment. There's no training switch to find before you leave.
  • E2EE, for chats nobody else should read. DeepSeek also runs in secure enclaves, run by third-party providers, not by Morse. Your browser checks the enclave's hardware attestation before anything leaves your device, then encrypts the message so only that enclave can read it, and Morse's servers relay ciphertext they can't read. The guarantee rests on the enclave hardware and attestation working as designed. E2EE chats have no web search, so there are no search keywords to send anywhere.
  • Anonymous, for comparing DeepSeek with GPT, Claude, and Gemini. Morse's proxy removes your account, email, and IP address and sends the message under Morse's own account, so the provider answers without knowing it's you. It may keep the message for a limited time to check for abuse, under its own policy.

In every mode, your chat history is stored only in your browser, encrypted, and locked when you sign out. Morse's servers don't keep messages or log message content, and your account holds sign-in details, plan, balance, and a usage ledger with no content (privacy policy). Morse doesn't train AI on your chats, sell your data, or show ads, and because it doesn't store chats, it usually has very little to give authorities. Your device holds the only copy, so deleting a chat, clearing your browser, or deleting your account removes it for good, and Morse can't recover it, so save anything you want to keep.

Try a chat from the home page with no account, or start free; DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and E2EE chats come with Pro, at $19 a month.

Common questions

Does uninstalling the DeepSeek app delete my account?

No. Uninstalling removes the app from your phone, and your account and chats stay with DeepSeek until you delete them in settings or by email.

Can I sign up again with the same email or phone number after deleting?

You can, but nothing comes back. DeepSeek's Chinese-language deletion notice says you can't recover any content even if you register again with the same phone number, and the app warns that frequent deletion and re-registration "could lead to restrictions or permanent bans."

If I change my phone number on DeepSeek, do my chats move with it?

Yes. As of October 2026, the Android app says your Open Platform balance and your chat history on web and app "will be transferred to the new number," and tells you to delete all chats first if you don't want that.

Does deleting DeepSeek remove my chats in other apps that use DeepSeek models?

No. DeepSeek's privacy policy says apps that developers build on its platform aren't covered by it, and the developer running each app controls that data. Delete those chats in each app.

Ask what you actually want to ask.

Over 30 models, characters, and images, with every chat encrypted and kept on your device. Free to start.
